This is a terrific publication, if your into tube audio this is the book you need. I have volume one as well. Both books are really well set out, going from basic electrical theory to how tubes and associated circuits work. Igor Popovich has an excellent way of explaining even the more complex designs. I have built some of the tube amplifiers from these books with fantastic results. I could not speak more highly of this book and would recommend both publications to anyone who has an interest in the wonderful world of tube audio. Brett Edwards

I own many of the "new age" books on tubes and this is the best series so far

This book is a worthy companion to volume one. The author discusses classical tube circuits while adding new-age "tweaks" to peak amplifier performance. I've already purchased the third volume and own about half of his training DVDs. I own many of the "new age" books on tubes and this is the best series so far.

About the Author

Peter Atkins is a fellow of Lincoln College in the University of Oxford and the author of about seventy books for students and a general audience. His texts are market leaders around the globe. A frequent lecturer in the United States and throughout the world, he has held visiting professorships in France, Israel, Japan, China, and New Zealand. He was the founding chairman of the Committee on Chemistry Education of the International Union of Pure and Applied Chemistry and was a member of IUPAC's Physical and Biophysical Chemistry Division.

Julio de Paula is Professor of Chemistry at Lewis & Clark College. A native of Brazil, Professor de Paula received a B.A. degree in chemistry from Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey, and a Ph.D. in biophysical chemistry from Yale University. His research activities encompass the areas of molecular spectroscopy, biophysical chemistry, and nanoscience. He has taught courses in general chemistry, physical chemistry, biophysical chemistry, instrumental analysis, and writing.

Pretty Bad

I Was forced to buy this for P-chem class at school, and IMHO this book is almost completely worthless. Information is not laid out in a helpful way, the graphs are hard to understand, and the typesetting for the equations is just awful. I would say the only redeeming factor for this book is the problems in the back of the chapter; they're actually pretty good for a chemistry book. Bottom line, if you're looking for a way to increase your knowledge of the subject, stay away from the book. If you're forced to buy it like I was, I wish you luck. I hope your professor has enough supplementary material to address the shortcomings of this book. P-chem is a subject worth learning, but you likely won't learn it from this book. Hope I helped.

This textbook is intended to be used in a variety of teaching situations from a traditional classroom lecture to individually paced instruction. Its primary function is to be used by the students.

Learning business mathematics is much like learning tennis. One can watch an instructor demonstrate a topspin forehand or read about it, but to master the technique, one needs careful explanation and practice, practice, and more practice. This textbook provides students with clear, detailed explanations of concepts followed by the necessary practice. Students participate actively in the course. A three-step procedure is followed:

Step 1: First, students read some explanatory material and are led through one or more worked examples.

Step 2: Second, students complete practice problems in the Your Turn feature.

Step 3: Finally, immediate feedback is provided using close-by answers and detailed solutions.

This three-step sequence facilitates the students' comprehension of various business math concepts by providing a means of "learning by doing."

Special features are included to make this text effective for students:

Careful attention has been given to readability and the visual organization of the instructional material. All business math techniques are clearly outlined in a Steps sequence, giving step-by-step guidance. Each section ends with an extensive set of practice problems and real-life applications. Each student has abundant opportunity for practicing the business mathematics operations being learned. Answers to the odd-numbered section problems are at the end of the book. Each chapter ends with a Self-Test covering the work of that chapter. The format is designed for students; it is clear and easy to follow. This text respects the individual needs of readers so as to ensure their understanding and continued attention. Answers to all the even-numbered problems in the text, along with the solutions and answers to selected odd-numbered problems, are given in an Instructor's Manual. Flexibility of use was a major criterion in the design of the book, and field testing indicates that the book can be used successfully in a variety of course formats. Problems and worked examples have been brought up to date and new applications have been added. All problem sets, self-tests, exercises, and applications have been revised and updated in response to reviewer suggestions. A case study involving a more extensive, real-life application has been added to each chapter. New business concepts and methods have been mentioned where appropriate, and some seldom-used methods have been dropped. The material on determining time in interest calculations has been simplified and improved. The use of calculators in performing arithmetic operations with fractions has been emphasized. Material on taxes has been moved to the chapters on percent and payroll.

Good, but not his best

"Erak's Ransom" is the 7th book in John Flanagan's Ranger's Apprentice series. Though I'm a huge fan of Flanagan and everything he has written, this was my least favorite of his books. It seemed a little predictable, and there weren't as many twists and turns in the plot as his other works. That said, I still enjoyed the book and absolutely love the characters he has created. Flanagan's strengths as a writer are his ability to paint clear and vivid images while maintaining a balance between action and plot development. This story actually takes place in the past, right after the events of book 4. This is the time when Will is almost finished with his apprenticeship and is worried he won't be up to the task when he becomes a full fledged ranger. Will, Halt, Horace (and others) travel over seas to rescue Erak of Skandia, who was captured on a raid. The story is mostly about Will's journey from boy to man. If you're a fan of the series, you won't want to miss it. But if you're looking for one of Flanagan's better books, I would suggest reading one earlier in the series.

About the Author
Bradley A. Shellito is a geographer whose work focuses on the application of geospatial technologies.� Dr. Shellito has been a professor at Youngstown State University (YSU) since 2004, and was previously a faculty member at Old Dominion University.� He teaches classes in GIS, Remote Sensing, GPS, and 3D Visualization and his research interests involve using these concepts with a variety of real-world issues.� He also serves as YSU’s PI in OhioView, a statewide geospatial consortium.� A native of the Youngstown area, Dr. Shellito received his bachelor’s degree from YSU, his Masters from the Ohio State University, and his doctorate from Michigan State University.

Helping fill gaps in learning not met in GIS course labs.

This book is phenomenal. My concentration in school is GIScience and remote sensing. My professor loaned me her copy for an internship, and I loved it so much, I went out and bought one myself.

This book has superb step-by-step methodology for learning complex ArcGIS analytics. I've taught myself address location, network analysis, and bridged the gap between ArcGIS and remote sensing using this book alone. The chapter on address location taught me all I needed to know to help build client based maps for a nonprofit in town that provides basic needs and housing to persons in need. This book helped those people directly, simply with it's clear and concise explanation of address location and address correction.

Each chapter has subset boxes providing more detailed information behind the point-and-clicking of GIS. You're not just going to be a monkey making maps, the book provides some rounded introduction into GIScience theory, which is crucial. Each chapter has additional citations on where to go to learn more in ArcGIS Help, or elsewhere.

If you're building a course, I'd recommend this as a tool for building and constructing labs. I was a TA in a cartography lab for two semesters, and I'd say this book has taught me much more, to bridge the gap between academia and reality. I will depend on this as a reference as I finalize my time as a student, and enter the GIS workforce.

A Note From The AuthorWhen I was a kid, I loved learning about animals, especially the weird ones!I remember reading about pangolins and how they were in trouble andneeded protection from poachers. I thought they would probably be extinctbefore I ever got to see one. I didn't feel like there was much I could do tohelp an animal in trouble so far away. That made me feel very sad.Many years later, as an adult, I traveled very far from home to the countryof Cambodia. While I was there, I visited an animal sanctuary and guesswhat I saw? A pangolin! He had been rescued from poachers and wasrecovering, surrounded by people who work to protect endangered animals.Learning about endangered animals can be discouraging. About the Author
ANASTASIA KIERST was born in Wyoming and spent most of her childhood and college years in the Rocky Mountains. She is an explorer at heart and soaks up inspiration while traveling with her husband Jeff Martin. The idea for this book came to her while visiting a wildlife sanctuary in Cambodia. In addition to writing and illustrating, she has worked as a graphic designer and a children's art teacher. Currently, she divides her time between Dallas, Texas and Rollinsville, Colorado. This is her second title as an author/illustrator and her third as an illustrator.

This is a great book. Very colorful and fun. Even if the kiddos can't read they can express themselves through the pictures. I love the added teacher pages at the back. Great way to introduce new and endangered animals and get a grade or too from it! Highly recommended!

Perfect ABC for my little cousins!

I picked up a copy of P is for Pangolin as a Christmas gift for my young cousins (3-4 years). The illustrations are just beautiful and the text is excellent as well. P is for Pangolin is a different take on the classic animal alphabet book. I love that it highlights typically under appreciated and/or endangered animals. One of my favorites in this author's series!
