About the Author
E. K. Bailey was founder and senior pastor of Concord Missionary Baptist Church in Dallas, Texas. He had widely lectured and preached at conventions, seminars, churches, and seminaries around the world. His E. K. Bailey Ministries sponsors the annual National Conference on Expository Preaching.

Warren W. Wiersbe, former pastor of the Moody Church and general director of Back to the Bible, has traveled widely as a Bible teacher and conference speaker. Because of his encouragement to those in ministry, Dr. Wiersbe is often referred to as "the pastor’s pastor." He has ministered in churches and conferences throughout the United States as well as in Canada, Central and South America, and Europe. Dr. Wiersbe has written over 150 books, including the popular BE series of commentaries on every book of the Bible, which has sold more than four million copies. At the 2002 Christian Booksellers Convention, he was awarded the Gold Medallion Lifetime Achievement Award by the Evangelical Christian Publishers Association. Dr. Wiersbe and his wife, Betty, live in Lincoln, Nebraska.

Good book, but imbalanced

Preaching in Black and White is a quick and meaningful read. Essentially, it's a transcript of a dialoge between a white preacher and a black preacher. As a white man, I found it very helpful in understanding black churches - cultural, social, and theological elements. In addition to discussing race, the book discusses sermon prep, delivery, techniques, etc. that would be helpful for any pastor.

The only flaw in this books is it's onesidedness - that whites have a lot to learn from blacks, but not vice-versa. On many occassions Wiersbe admits faults of white churches and how black churhes do things better, but Bailey never admits ways for black churches to improve. There is a biography of black preachers in the back, but not of white ones. The included sermon is of Bailey only, excluding Wiersbe. This imbalance is not a major fault, but a bit disappointing given the subtitle.

Notwithstanding the minor criticism, I think many veteran Christians would be helped by reading this book, whether in the pastorate or not.

Reading this book is like sitting in on a fascinating conversation between two great preachers. They cover a wide-ranging set of topics. Anyone interested in preaching will enjoy this book. A special treat included is a CD containing one of Bailey's sermons.

This is one of the best treatments of this topic, although those who patently disagree with the premise will not like the book no matter who wrote it.

Put away your prejudice and bias, I say, and explore this study. The author goes through very carefully and examines all the arguments and the "heresy" of Not Once Save Always Saved, and compares it with the true Writ of Scriputre!!!

Enduring to the End is Essential

Jesus told His own disciples that they had to endure to the end or they would not be saved (Matt. 10:22; 24:13).
Who are we trying to kid? This author begins with his desired end in mind. Whose intelligence is he attempting to insult? Any person who simple reads God's Word will see through this attempt at manipulating the LORD's truth to fit into the theological bent he has been taught.

Really nice!

I really like this book! My favorite song out of all of them is puff the magic dragon! It is really not the advanced so if you have only been playing for awhile you should be able to play some of the songs. And if you are looking for something really advance I would not suggest this book. I am more advance so this book is kind of just some practice playing. I often switch positions when paying just to make it more interesting. But it is nice to have simple easy songs to play for people that they know. Puff the magic dragon is a popular one in my house!

Perfect learning tool

I bought this because I wanted something easy to play. I learned to play violin 15 years ago so I new I would be rusty. This was perfect for me. It had a nice combination of music and since I know these songs, I know when I'm playing them right. Great for beginners and people relearning.

Eric Godtland is a self-confessed compulsive collector. Working from his bases in the Haight-Ashbury and Potrero Hill districts of San Francisco, Eric obsesses over all things girly, Hawaiian, musical and modernist. When not lusting after “cool stuff,” Eric manages musicians, bends technology to his will, writes, and begs for money.

Paul Krassner was a founder of the Youth International Party (Yippies) in 1967 and a member of Ken Kesey's Merry Pranksters. He produced The Realist, a magazine of social criticism, from 1958 to 1974, leading People magazine to name him "the father of the underground press". He is the author of 15 books; his most recent being In Praise of Indecency.

Dian Hanson produced a variety of men’s magazines from 1976 to 2001, including Juggs, Outlaw Biker and Leg Show, before becoming TASCHEN’s Sexy Book editor. Her 60+ books for TASCHEN include The Art of Pin-up and Psychedelic Sex. She lives in Los Angeles.

Groovy Retrosepctive On Tripping and Sexy Hippie Chicks

This is yet another fabulously playful and esoteric Taschen work which I have been anxiously anticipating since November when they announced it, as I like the counter-culture vestiges which I fondly remember from my childhood. I am not disappointed by this at all. The lime green and purple paper sleeve greeted me with the promise of a real groovy trip, and the orgy montage on the cover invited me in. The lime green page edges and sheer heft of the book let me know I better be ready for some serious digression, and the book definitely provides that. I'm bedazzled and still coming down from an hour of flipping through the pages. As usual with Taschen, they give you a lot of content for your money and this is well worth the shelf space. I suspect this book may actually establish a new and cognizable genre of eroticism. It's a niche that heretofore has not been properly identified and articulated. Did you like Goldie Hawn doing a go-go dance on Laugh In when you were a kid? Or, Benny Hill's Gold Diggers dancing in the background as he sang a little song? Well, those specific images may not be here, but that exact vibe certainly is, and with a lot less clothing and quite a bit more hair, if you know what I mean.

I was a little concerned that there would be overlap between this publication and Dian Hanson's epic six-volume Men's Magazines set which Taschen published several years ago. I love buying books, but I don't like redundancy. Well, I'm pleased to report that if there is redundancy, I didn't spot it. And the theme here is really quite tantalizing--sexy, hippie encounters from the late 60's and early 70's. The colors are glaring but festive, the women beautiful and au natural, the superimposed psychedelic designs and lighting are goofy but they do effectively cast a certain intoxicating spell. If you were a kid in the 60s you remember a lot of this vibe. I was too young to participate at the time, but now I get an ample dosage here (figuratively, of course)! There are countless magazine covers and some movie posters, but mostly this appears to be inner content from assorted men's cult magazines from the era. I think a generous San Francisco collector allowed Dian access, and she culled out the best of the best. These images are really more humorous than anything, but they do bring back memories of a more experimental and exciting time.

Is there any publisher out there doing anything close to what Taschen is doing? I don't think there is anyone even close. So many people get worked up about Steve Jobs' legacy; I'm personally far more captivated by the Taschens, their innovation just keeps going year after year. Even if this book were about knitting or canning fruit, as a book collector I would still find the quality of this publication to be striking. (In the same Amazon box today I received Taschen's "World War One in Color." It is also a serious accomplishment.) I like the slide-through book sleeve on this, but I do wish it was made of heavier-grade cardboard. (I'm also really hoping that Taschen moves on from the carboard boxes for their XL series and upgrades to a high quality slip-case.) But these are minor gripes--buy this now and prepare to view some happy psychedelic debauchery. Pour yourself a martini, and spend an hour or two flipping through these pages. This crowd is not as refined as the Playboy set, but it looks like they are having even more fun. Ken Kesey, Timothy Leary and Jerry Garcia would approve!

A meticulously assembled coffee table book of psych sex! We live a block from Haight & Ashbury in SF, and love this book! From the many, many, many prints of 1960s "forbidden" sexytime, to the excellent essays, to the print/production, this is a great coffee table book for any hippie or neo-hippe.

The other, Segismundo Casado behaved with a remarkable combination of cynicism, arrogance and selfishness.

On 5 March 1939, the eternally malcontent Colonel Casado launched a military coup against the government of Juan Negr�n. Ironically, he ensured that the end of the Spanish Civil War was almost identical to its beginning. As Mola, Franco and the other conspirators of 1936 had done, Casado led a part of the Republican Army in revolt against the Republican government. He claimed, as they had done, and equally without foundation, that Negr�n’s government was the puppet of the Communist Party and that a coup was imminent to establish a Communist dictatorship.

Casado’s ambition was to go down in history as the man who ended the Spanish Civil War. Instead he ensured the Republic ended in catastrophe and shame as Negrin’s attempts to achieve an honourable and negotiated peace with guarantees for the civilian population were thwarted and Franco and his forces wreaked havoc and revenge. Madrid collapsed into civil war and two thousand people died. Refugees fled reprisals in their thousands and those who couldn’t escape met a terrible fate.

Paul Preston, the leading historian of 20th century Spain, tells this shocking story for the first time in English. It is a harrowing tale of how the flawed decisions of politicans can lead to tragedy.

About the Author

Paul Preston CBE is Pr�ncipe de Asturias Professor of Contemporary Spanish History and Director of the Ca�ada Blanch Centre of Contemporary Spanish Studies at LSE. He was lecturer at the University of Reading and Professor of History at Queen Mary University. In 2006 he was awarded the International Ramon Llull Prize by the Catalan Government. Among his many works are 'Franco: A Biography’, 'Comrades', 'Doves of War: Four Women in Spain’, 'Juan Carlos', 'The Spanish Civil War', ‘The Spanish Holocaust’ and ‘The Last Stalinist’. He was decorated by Spanish King Juan Carlos a 'Comendador de la Orden de M�rito Civil' and in 2007, the 'Gran Cruz de la Orden de Isabel la Cat�lica'.

Great Anthology

This book is a great anthology of American plays. It includes plays from the the 1700's and the 1990's, a plethora of plays. And this book not only covers a large time span, it also includes plays written by playwrights from a variety of different cultures. It will provide you with classic plays that you read in high school, and plays you have never heard of, but all are worth reading, and all will enlighten you about our American Culture.

I bought this book because it was required for my American Drama College Class. It's a great book, it included most of the plays we covered during the semester. The plays are arranged in chronological order by the time era they were written.
